Blog Post #12: Spring Break Show and Tell

  1. What were some of the most interesting discoveries I made while working on this project?

I made multiple interesting discoveries during my research on different cultures. While I was learning about other cultures, I noticed that some cultures feature some truly exotic and cool traditions. For example, while I was researching Barbudan culture, I found out that Barbudans celebrate an annual Mango Festival. I found it interesting that they had an entire festival dedicated to a tropical fruit.

      2. What were some of my most challenging moments and what made them so?

The most challenging part of my 20Time is deciding which cultures to research for each month. This is because I want to choose cultures that have depth and also have information that is easy to find online. I feel like the cultures I have chosen have been good choices as they have not been hard for me to research and write about.

3.What were some of my most powerful learning moments and what made them so?

Some learning moments from my 20Time project include when I did a Chinese calligraphy, and made Swedish meatballs. My Chinese calligraphy taught me to not give up on something, as I made multiple mistakes and had to redo the calligraphy at least three times. Making Swedish meatballs taught me that trying new things can be very fun. I stepped outside of my comfort zone, as I had never cooked before, but after making the meatballs, I discovered that cooking was quite fun and I wasn’t bad at it.

4.What is the most important thing I learned personally?

The most important thing I learned from my 20Time experience is to not be afraid to step outside of my comfort zone. Cooking was outside of my comfort zone as I had never done it before, but making meatballs for Swedish culture taught me that cooking was fun and easy.

Blog Post #11: New Culture, New Me

  1. What did you accomplish this week?

This week, I did not complete much work, but I did start working on some things. The most notable thing I did this week was deciding what culture I will research for this month. (April) I chose Egyptian culture to be this month’s theme. I also started researching Egyptian culture in preparation for my writing on the culture. Overall, I started work, but completed nothing.

  1. What are you working on right now?

Right now, I am working mainly on two things. First, I am finishing my research on Egyptian culture, and I expect myself to be finished with it by the end of the week. Second, I am busy brainstorming ideas for the item I could make for Egyptian culture. I don’t any ideas right now, but I expect to have at least one good idea by the end of the week.

  1. What do you plan to do next week?

Next week, I plan on completing the tasks I started this week. Like I said before, I want to brainstorm ideas for the item I will make for Egyptian culture, and I also will finish researching Egyptian culture. After I complete these activities, I will start my writing on Egyptian culture, then I will be ready to start working on my item.

Weekly March Deliverables
March 4: Since I was working on my history notebook, I still need to make poi. I will also determine the culture I will research for this month.

March 18: I will completely finish my writing. (complete)

March 25: Start work on my slideshow on Barbudan culture.

March 30: Complete my slideshow on Barbudan culture.

Weekly April Deliverables
April 1: I didn’t finish my March 30 deliverable to complete my slideshow, so I will complete it this week.

April 8: Start researching Egyptian culture, and brainstorm ideas for the item I  will make.

April 15: Starting my writing on Egyptian culture, and brainstorm more ideas for the item I will make.

April 22: Finish my writing on Egyptian culture and start making my item.

April 29: Finish making my item and finish any other deliverables I may have missed.
