Blog Post #4: Changing it Up

  1. What areas do you still need to grow?

Although this project has been beneficial for me, there are still many areas in which I still need to grow in. First of all, my work habits need to get better. I usually start my projects near their due date, sometimes one week before their due date, or three days before. However, 20Time has taught me that starting your work at the last minute will not always give you quality work. Secondly, my idea generation needs work. When I work on something that allows me to create a random illustration, or create a topic, I normally need a long period of time to think of a good idea. Finally, my writing skills need improvement. I feel like I do a good job of making my writing understandable to most readers, but I need to write to show my message better, instead of just writing a jumble of words.

2) Have you stepped outside of your comfort zone? How?

I have not yet stepped outside of my comfort zone, but I plan to do so soon and for some of the cultures I research next. This month, I plan on recording myself cooking Swedish meatballs. This is out of my comfort zone as I have never formally cooked before, unless putting the microwave on high for a set amount of time is considered “cooking.” As this is my first time cooking, making these meatballs will be quite the arduous task.

3) Who were you before this process and who are you now?

Before my 20Time project, I was less motivated to finish my work, but I actually enjoy doing my 20Time project. Although my work habits are still not the best, I have done my other classwork sooner so I have more time to work on what interests me. Additionally, because my project involves lots of writing, my writing skills have been improved.

      4) What did you do this week and what are your next steps?

This week, I got closer to completing my December first deliverable by researching Swedish culture. So far, I have completed researching Swedish geography and cuisine, but I still need to write about other aspects of Swedish culture, such as Swedish history or languages. I also need to record the video in which I cook Swedish meatballs. Finally, I want to decide which culture I will research for December, so I can get a head start on my work.

Side Note: I am redoing my item for Taiwanese culture. It was originally a calligraphy of the mandarin characters for Taiwan. I was not satisfied with my final product, so I am going to create a different calligraphy.

Blog Post #3: Finally Done with my First True Deliverable

1) What did you accomplish this week?

I accomplished a good amount of work this week. I completed my November first deliverable, which was to research Taiwanese culture and acquire one item relating to Taiwanese culture. To be more specific, I wrote about Taiwanese history, geography, languages and indigenous people. The item I made for Taiwanese culture was a calligraphy of the Chinese Mandarin characters for Taiwan, 台湾. 台 pronounced as Tái, and 湾 pronounced as wān.

2) What are you working on right now?

Currently, I am in the process of determining which culture I will research next. I am also looking to revise and add to my research on Taiwan, as I feel it is a little disorganized and could use some more information. I estimate these two things will take me under a week to do if I stay on task and don’t procrastinate. I aim to get a head start on the next culture, so I won’t have to perform an all-nighter.

3) What do you plan to do next week?

Next week, I aim to know which culture I will research and start researching it. If all goes well, I will be knowledgeable on the culture and be ready to write about it. Since I now have an idea of how much time and work I will need to put in to complete each deliverable, I don’t think I will procrastinate as much. Taiwanese culture took me many hours to complete, and I did all of the work in the last week of October, and I aim to avoid a similar situation for November.

Blog Post #2: Slow, Minuscule Progress

1) What did you accomplish this week?                                                                 10/21/18

This week, I did not accomplish much, as I was preoccupied with a separate English project, a research project about McCarthyism. However, I did a small amount of work on my 20Time project. I figured out which culture I will research first, which is Taiwanese culture. I didn’t just stop there, as I also researched the geography of Taiwan and how it shaped the culture and people living there.

2) What are you working on right now?

Right now, I am researching the cuisine and art of Taiwanese culture. I hope to write a summary of these aspects of Taiwanese culture by next week. Additionally, I am determining what item to get for Taiwanese culture. However, I don’t think I will be able to do this as my McCarthyism Research project is my first priority, and I don’t think I will have a lot of time to work on my 20Time project.

3) What do you plan to do next week?

Next week, I aim to completely finish my research on Taiwanese culture, and then post my research to this website. When I’m done with this, then all I will have to do is get the item for Taiwanese culture and I will be done with my November 1st deliverable. I’m fairly sure that I won’t complete my goals for next week as I have two important things to do: my McCarthyism research project, and I have to study for comps. However, I will do my best to do as much work on this project as I can.
